Gunditjmara Family Engagement Project
Right People for Country program is currently supporting Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owner Aboriginal Corporation to hold a family engagement process with Gunditjmara families.
The project aims to:
- Give Gunditjmara families an opportunity to come together, to address issues and propose ways forward.
- Ask families to provide guidance about how the Gunditj Mirring board can best represent its members.
- Contribute to a better decision-making environment for Gunditjmara people.
We want to hear from family members who descend from any of the fourteen Gunditjmara Apical Ancestors.
If you are keen to be involved in a family meeting, we encourage you to get in touch with us!

Project overview
Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owner Aboriginal Corporation has requested Right People for Country program support for the Gunditjmara Family Engagement Project.
Gunditj Mirring and Right People for Country program worked together to design the Gunditjmara Family Engagement project.
Meetings will be offered to all family groups – organised at a time and place that suits each family. Meetings will be facilitated by independent Aboriginal facilitators. Each family will receive a summary report of their meeting to confirm its accuracy.
The information from the family meeting reports will be de-identified and collated into one report that summarises the feedback from all meetings held with Gunditjmara families.
The report will be presented to the Gunditj Mirring board and then a plan will be developed for how the information will be shared with the community.
Gunditj Mirring in collaboration with the facilitators will develop an implementation plan using the information gathered through the family meeting process. Gunditj Mirring will communicate back to the community about what it has heard from the family engagement process and about its implementation plan.
Right People for County program’s involvement ensures that the engagement process is independent, and that information shared in the family meetings is confidential to each family, with feedback de-identified and collated before being provided to Gunditj Mirring.
Right People for Country program can support Gunditjmara people's attendance at a family meeting by providing travel reimbursement, accommodation and meals. Participants travelling to attend the family meetings are able to claim reimbursement for fuel or public transport costs.
